The Frenchman says his side have done better against the big teams than any other club in the Premier League but he has frequently been left disappointed in 'easier' games
Arsene Wenger says Arsenal have dropped too many points against the smaller teams in the Premier League this season and rued their inability to win games when the pressure is off.The Gunners take on Crystal Palace on Sunday having slipped to fourth place in the table, 13 points behind leaders Leicester City and with their title hopes all but over for another season.
Arsenal beat Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park earlier in the campaign but their manager has admitted that on too many occasions his team has slipped up in matches they are expected to win.
"If you look objectively at our season we have done better than anybody against the big teams... but we did not turn up when we felt we were less under pressure," he told reporters.
"I say to my players that our responsibility is to fight in every single match until the last minute of the season."
Arsenal were held to a 3-3 draw by West Ham last time out despite taking a 2-0 lead, but Wenger has defended his side’s style of play.
"We are an attacking side," he added. "I don’t think you can pretend to be a big club and say 'we only want to defend' – we have that responsibility and we have to stand up for that.
"We have to continue to develop the quality of our game. It doesn’t mean we have to change our style. It means we have to be better in the style we play.
"At West Ham, the fact that Carroll stayed on the pitch was absolutely scandalous. But nobody speaks about that.
"Of course, then, it’s easy to be physical. If you’re allowed absolutely everything on the football pitch. It’s easy to be physical – because you’re not punished."
